Welcome to today’s blog journey! Join me as I share an eye-opening experience I had during a trip to the dentist with my toothpaste-loving, 1-year-old daughter. It was a visit that reminded me of the power of self-awareness in navigating life’s interactions.

I thought it would be just another routine dental visit, but little did I know that it would turn into a valuable lesson. From the moment we walked in, my daughter’s excitement was infectious. The hygienist made tooth brushing a breeze, and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

It was during our time with the dentist that things took an unexpected turn. The dentist noticed a slight lip tie in my daughter, a condition where the upper lip is tightly connected to the upper gums. While I had been informed previously that it wasn’t a major concern, the dentist seemed quite alarmed and emphasized the seriousness of the issue.

Concerned, I began asking important questions about the implications, potential urgency, and necessary steps to address the lip tie. As our conversation unfolded, I started to sense a misalignment in the dentist’s priorities. It became apparent that she was pushing a program she had introduced, eager to use the services of an expert that only visited once a month. On top of that, she suggested an expensive mouth guard to replace my daughter’s pacifier.

This experience taught me the importance of being self-aware and aware of how others perceive us. By tactfully allowing the dentist to believe I had limited knowledge on the topic while I focused on my daughter’s health and gaining insights from her, I was able to gauge her genuine concern for my daughter’s well-being versus any potential sales agenda. It became clear that the dentist was more focused on pushing her program and unnecessary products rather than providing the best care for my daughter.

This experience reaffirmed the importance of trusting our instincts and taking action when we feel something isn’t right. While intentionally withholding information or misleading health professionals should not be a regular practice, it can be valuable to follow our intuition in certain situations. Open and honest communication with healthcare professionals is crucial, but it’s also important to gather different perspectives and seek second opinions when necessary.

Remember, you have the power to advocate for your family’s well-being. Trust your instincts, seek information, and work with professionals who align with your values and priorities. By staying self-aware and taking action when needed, you can ensure the best possible outcomes.
