Before the Applause

Before the Applause editorial feature image

Right now...

I'm building something most people cannot see yet.

I write words only a handful of people have read.

I make decisions no one is applauding.

I spend hours building a vision that, for now, exists mostly in my own heart and in my own hands.

There is no crowd.

No standing ovation.

No finish line waiting with people cheering my name.

Because I'm still building the road that leads there.

And somewhere in this quiet...

I've learned something.

There is a lie that quietly visits women who are building.

It whispers...

Wait.

Wait until it's perfect.

Wait until someone notices.

Wait until there's proof.

Wait until you're certain.

Wait until moving feels safe.

It sounds wise.

It sounds responsible.

But it quietly steals years.

Because purpose was never meant to begin after certainty.

Purpose begins with conviction.

Long before anyone else understands what you're building.

Long before anyone believes in it.

Long before anyone claps.

I've realized something.

Recognition is a result.

Conviction is a requirement.

You don't wait for the applause to build the thing.

You build it in the quiet.

You build it when no one understands it.

You build it when you're the only one who can see what it might become.

Because if your purpose depends on an audience...

it was never purpose that was leading you.

There have been nights when I closed my laptop and realized no one would ever know what happened that day.

No one would know about the chapter I rewrote.

The decision I made.

The hours I spent wrestling with an idea until it finally made sense.

No one would celebrate the progress because no one could see it.

For a moment...

that felt insignificant.

Now I know better.

Because the work that changes your life is almost never the work people witness.

It's the work they eventually benefit from.

That's the part no one talks about.

Becoming doesn't happen on launch day.

It doesn't happen when the book is published.

Or when the business opens its doors.

Or when people finally begin saying your name.

Becoming happens long before any of that.

It happens in the ordinary Tuesday no one remembers.

The morning you choose discipline over distraction.

The page you write that no one else will read for months.

The decision you make for a woman you haven't even met yet.

That's where becoming lives.

Not in the recognition.

In the repetition.

I've also realized something else.

No one applauds the first mile of a road.

Especially one that doesn't seem to lead anywhere yet.

But someone still has to clear the ground.

Someone still has to lay the first stone.

Someone has to believe in the destination before there's any evidence they're moving toward it.

That's what conviction looks like.

It keeps building long before the results become visible.

So if you're building something today...

A dream.

A business.

A healthier marriage.

A stronger family.

A different version of yourself.

Don't mistake the quiet for failure.

The quiet isn't empty.

It's where foundations are poured.

It's where character is formed.

It's where purpose quietly becomes reality.

So build before they understand.

Work before they notice.

Become before they applaud.

Because if you need the crowd before you begin...

the crowd is leading you.

And purpose was never meant to follow applause.

That's part of my Herformation.

And I hope...

it becomes part of yours, too.
